International Orchestral Conducting Seminar Lovro pl. Matačić
Year after year, Dubrovnik becomes a gathering place for young conductors from various parts of the world. The International Orchestral Conducting Seminar “Lovro Matačić” has, for ten years, attracted conductors to Dubrovnik to refine their skills with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, alongside the renowned maestro and great pedagogue, Uroš Lajovic.
The seminar is organized in collaboration with the Lovro and Lilly Matačić Foundation and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, with support from the Dubrovnik Tourist Board. Every year, the seminar concludes with a grand final concert that is open to the general public.
The Lovro and Lilly Matačić Foundation was founded in 1987 in accordance with the testamentary wishes of Maestro Lovro Matačić and his wife Lilly. As a non-profit association, it carries out numerous activities aimed at nurturing and expanding the artistic, cultural, and social legacy of Lovro Matačić. Through the scholarship and awarding of talented young conductors, supporting their education both domestically and abroad, and organizing a major international conducting competition every four years (since 1995), the Foundation maintains constant contact with new generations of musicians and directly contributes to their artistic development.
Lovro von Matačić (1899–1985) remains to this day the greatest Croatian conductor, whose multifaceted talent, often flourishing even in unfavorable socio-political circumstances, managed to shine as an exceptional value that always found space for realization.
